I wish Enterprise had been set on a Daedalus-class.  I know, I know, some people despise the ship design.  But I think it’s brilliant and would have been great to see in action…

I’m ambivalent about the Daedalus design, but I still also wish “Enterprise” had been on a Daedalus-type just to be true to the established history.  Of course, “Enterprise” takes place before the Federation, before the Daedalus, but it would have been more true to Trek to have it be some sort of proto-Daedalus or proto-Enterprise design, rather than the proto-Akira claptrap they went with.

(The producers actually wanted the exact Akira design for “Enterprise”, with no alterations whatsoever!  Fortunately others (maybe Drexler?) convinced them to allow for a “retrograding” of the design to make it appear somewhat older and clunkier.  Phew.)

While I agree that it would have been more Trek history authentic, (I also have a respect for the Daedalus class), I’m glad they went with the design they did for the NX-01.  In “Beneath the Raptor’s Wing” and “To Brave the Storm” novels they discuss the Daedalus and NX class ships in detail and why the Romulan war pushed the production of the Daedalus design but how the NX was a superior chassis.  I like the Daedalus in general but have a hard time finding the ship aesthetically appealing.  Does anyone know if Sisko may have served on one or what relationship he has with the ship?  There’s a model in his office…

No, Sisko never served on a Daedalus ship. All the Daedalus class ships had been retired by the time he entered the academy.
